We dont have enough room here at the yardstead for cows or pigs. We are planning to get some small goats though. Anyone have any good suggestions for goats?

Hello, I raise pygmy goats which do well in small areas. Full grown they are about 16 to 23 inches at the withers and usually weigh between 40 and 70 pounds. They give a surprising amount of milk for their size. They are herd animals though so you should get more than one. A single lonely goat will bleat all the time and not do well.

They are good for children. Some 4H kids around here raise them for show. They are gentle and playful. I do breed them as well. Pygmy goats can breed year-round and usually have 1-3 kids weighing 2-4 pounds each.

Although goats are pretty much self reliant and are an excelent source of milk and meat they can be troublesome. (They can climb fences like a cat.) An alternative to Goats are "Hair Sheep". They do not require trimming like wool sheep and are very containable.
Oh, they eat good too!

Cool. This is the first I've heard of "hair sheep". I just read a bit about them online. It seems hair sheep reproduce easily, are resistant to many internal parasites and tolerant of heat and high humidity. Would recommend a particular breed?
